SPARROWS

Written on 31/05/2020

Early morning when the sun sets its blaring rays on your eyelids, you wake up to the chirping of hatchlings. As you rise up and walk towards the music like sound of the tiny, pink, feather less yet stunning creatures, your eyes gleam of excitement. You stand still quite a while thinking nothing but the beautiful little lives in front of you. You wonder how these grow feathers; how these learn to fly; how do these learn to find food. You think of food to feed them too right at the sight.

No sooner you realise you have been watching it all for long than your mom shouts your name from next room enjoining you to get ready for school. You make a promise to visit them after after school and go to bathe. When you are all set for school after arranging your books side by side in the bag; checking your stationary; picking up ID card and hot box of food that your mother packed for lunch, you hear another peculiar sound. You listen to it keenly. It wasn’t from the hatchlings now but the mama bird, the mother sparrow. You rush to her, sliding and staggering your feet to resist the slipperiness of the pair of white socks you were wearing for school.

.

A small brown stubby  mother sparrow with yellow neck is at the spot now. You see her chirrrping  happily with her hatchlings. You see the hatchlings chattering louder then and decide to leave to school leave forcefully yearning to stay there and watch them for a little longer.

NOW,

Let’s talk present, we didn’t take enough care of them. We failed to take steps for the good of the ones that we loved. Love alone does not suffice. Efforts that we make is what that  counts. Even the teeny tiny moves that we make resonate heavy. But we missed to do the little step. We forgot the ones we loved because of our busy life. We didn’t give a thought about anything but ourselves.

Yes, we don’t see the sparrows now, nor her hatchlings in our neighbourhood.

Tragic but true.

Show what sparrows would look like to your grandchildren from google photos.

Can you do anything more ?
