WATER

WATER RESOURCE —> PACKAGED DRINKING WATER

Written on 30/05/2020

We have seen scenes from movies that depict a woman carrying a pot of fresh water from the river side along with her friends and neighbours talking and laughing out all the way from the shore to her house. Would she have ever thought that her grand son or grand daughter would never get to do the same? That they would never be able to fetch pails of water from fresh water bodies nearby ? That there wouldn’t be a fresh water body nearby at all ? That they would have to pay for water ? That they would have to pay for the most basic need of life ? She wouldn’t have. If she had, she wouldn’t have had the genuine smile on her face. Her smile wouldn’t have curved as beautiful as it did.

But here we are, as grandchildren of her and her friends paying for canned water. We are so naive that we do not give a thought about it at all. Or are we accustomed to the notion of buying what was once free for everyone’s usage ? Now, the movies portray casual scenes of people buying water from stores as a part of their routine. This was just one transition. We might have to face other drastic ones too with our clueless attitude and the helpless thoughts that run in our mind avidly when we flash across the possibilities of ways of procuring water in future.

We will be busy with our lives that we might not even know the transition happening alongside our daily routine.

And one day our grandchildren would understand that investing on water was the most “profitable” and would have wished we  had invested in it too rather than developing a realisation that this was never meant to be bottled nor sold; that water was never money. That’s irony but true.

Have you stocked up your bottled water ?
